European Transitional

Litchfield County

Our goal was to turn an ordinary Colonial kitchen into a warm, European, country-style space. The client was looking for a very high end, sophisticated look, but also wanted her home to feel warm and inviting, which heavily inspired the design of this space.

This kitchen is equipped with lacquered taupe cabinetry complimented by touches of bleached oak on the island and floating shelves, designed to bring an earthy element to the space. Paired beautifully with polished brass, old fashioned latches and cup handles. We used white, hand-crafted, high-gloss subway tile on the backsplash which was run up and around the 3 tall kitchen windows. The floor is a tumbled marbled porcelain set in a herringbone pattern which ran through the kitchen, hallways, laundry room and powder bath to ensure continuity throughout the first floor of the home. To complete the look, the kitchen hood was all done in plaster, designed to bring that “old world” European feel to the space.
